I have no friends and I suck at life

Notes

Movies for June and July

Borat
5/10
Another movie that wasn’t as funny as it seemed. It wasn’t bad, the saddest thing was the fact that it was the American’s reactions were funnier than the Borat character. It was an okay film.

Jennifer’s Body
6/10
This film was better than expected. Megan Fox truely surprised me, as her acting wasn’t too bad in this film. There were some nasty bits that almost made me look away. Surprisingly good.

Sex Drive

The Mummy
7.5/10
This movie is still a favorite of mine, I’ve loved ancient Egypt since I was a child so this gives me a nerdy boner. Brendan Fraser is one hot piece of ass, and I love the dynamic between him and Evy. A classic, awesome movie.

The Mummy Returns
7/10
I enjoy this movie. The plot of this film is ridiculously complex, and not well thought-out at all. If you enjoyed the original, you’ll probably like this.

Hard Candy
8.5/10
This film was INTENSE. It was slightly hard to keep up with, the dialogue was very fast-paced and the plot progressed quickly, so within the first half an hour your mind is reeling. I almost wanted to turn it off about half-way through and have a break. I found it very hard to sympatize with the girl (Ellen Page, who was surprisingly decent in this (as a Juno hater)) because she acted like such a pyscho.. If you’re mentally stable this movie is probably worth a view.

V for Vendetta
9/10
This is my new favorite movie, and I’d put it up there with one of my best movies of all time. I’m not a big comic book fan, but this story drew me in, a wonderful story with great acting and awesome action scenes.

The Crow: Wicked Prayer.
1/10
Horrible. Tara Reid should never be in a main role. The movie was only 80 minutes long, so the plot didn’t have much chance to develop. The acting was horrible, the action scenes were screwy. Horrid.

Boogeyman 3
4/10
I spent most of the movie trying to figure out who the lead actress was. (she was Ted’s sister in How I Met Your Mother)
For some reason anything set in a college is just ridiculous to me, I don’t know if that’s what American college is actually like, but that was more scary than the actually murders. The acting was pretty bad, and making the Boogeyman into a semi-pyschical being somehow made him (?) less scary.. Not completely terrible, not as good as the second movie.

Lesbian Vampire Killers
6/10
Before I saw this movie I said that this would either be funny or softcore porn.. It was quite funny. There was a ridiculousness that made you aware that even the people who made the film weren’t taking it too seriously, so you shouldn’t either.. I’d watch it again.

Star Trek
10/10
I saw this movie on the 18th and brought it on the 23rd. I love everything about this movie, all the costuming and make-up look amazing, I love all the characters, I love Spock to death and I feel like such a nerd for loving it all so much!

The Unborn
7/10
This turned out to be not as bad as I thought, the acting was too good for the movie, really.. There were some geniunely creepy parts (I’m still on the look out for an upside-down head dude in my room at night). And best of all, Cam Gigandet was one of the main characters!

The Truman Show
5.5/10
The first half of the movie was confusing, it jumped around to different timelines and places, which was difficult to get used to.. But it got better. Why it was listed as a comedy I’ll never know, it was creepy.. This would be better as a book, as the details were a bit rushed and I had to read the plot on wikipedia to actually “get” it.

Marley and Me
8/10
This movie was very believable and sweet. I’ve brought three puppies home in 3 years, so I could really relate to this movie, and it was nice to see a dog being a dog in a movie, not saving someone from a fire or something. I freaking hate movies about animals, they make me cry.
Owen also enjoyed this movie :)

Urban Legend
5/10
Anoher of those lame college horror premises, I’m a fan of urban legends so I could watch it again, despite seeing it like, five times before. The motive for the murders was hilariously bad, and the killer’s acting once they became “pyschotic” was bad, the ending is just baffling. A good once-only viewing.

Bruno
6/10
I liked this a little better than Borat, even though it was pretty much the same movie.. It was a bit of a clusterfuck though, it bordered more on disrespectful than funny.. Like they were trying to see what they could get away with. The baby was awesome though. The Christians were pretty terrifying.

A Patch of Blue
8/10
A sweet film, Sidney Poitier is a joy to watch. A tad too preachy, but what can you expect from a film made in the 50’s? Any fan of old-school romances will enjoy this film.

Groundhog Day
6.5/10
This movie depresses me, it turns out to be one of the sweetest, funniest movies I’ve ever seen, but for some reason it always brings me down.. If you enjoy funny romances that aren’t too sappy, you’ll like this :)

Zodiac
7/10
This movie was crazy long, like 2.5 hours, and you could feel it. It was always marketed as a horror movie, but it was really more of a police/action movie, don’t get them mixed up, or you’ll be bored to tears. The only redeeming quality of this movie was the murder scenes, they were visually and I guess.. atmospherically stunning, for an example, I’ll suggest you watch the taxi driver murder, that’s the best example of what I mean. Jake Gyllenhaal was good, and if you’ve read about the murders, you can switch off half-way through and still know exactly what happens at the end.
